Stars Raised More than NT362million for Morakot Victims

In aid of the victims of Typhoon Morakot, a four-hour fund-raising event was held yesterday, raising a total of NT362 million.

Andy Lau, one of Hong Kong's biggest names, joined more than 200 homegrown stars to take donation pledges over the phone from the Taiwanese public on Friday in the four-hour fundraiser.

Typhoon Morakot is one of the worst typhoons to strike Taiwan in 50 years. As of 15 August, Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou has warned the death toll from the floods and mudslides that followed Typhoon Morakot could be more than 500.
