Elva Visits Millet Art Exhibition
Elva took time to visit the Jean-François Millet art exhibition, appreciating many of his famous art works, including the La fileuse, chevrière auvergnate. Although Millet was a talented man, he led a poor life, and if Elva was to choose between a rich but old fashioned man and a poor but talented man, she would choose the latter.
Elva learnt about Millet while she was studying designing. This time, she had the rare opportunity to visit the Jean-François Millet art exhibition outside of France. She did her homework the night before visiting the exhibition, saying: “It feels like I’m researching for my art classes in the midnight!” Having gathered much knowledge about Millet’s artworks, Elva slowly appreciated each and every single painting, and she particularly liked the La fileuse, chevrière auvergnate.
“In Millet’s paintings, the background are misty and the faces are dark. I’m really curious about this form of art expression.” After listening to the tour guide explanation, she realised that Millet was trying to express the high status of religion and the insignificance of Man. “Millet is so admirable,” she said.
Although Millet was a talented artist, he had lived on bread and butter, painstakingly providing for his family. Elva will still choose talent over wealth: “I will still choose a talented man, even if he is poor. This is because I like guys who appreciate art, so I’m prefer guys who have an interest in art. As for money, we can always earn it back.” What if she was to choose between a NT$300,000 artwork and a branded bag? She said practically: “I have to see it first to decide which is worth keeping.”
