Elva Does Web Interview

Elva attended a web interview with her fans. Here are some snippets.

Reporter: R Elva: E

R: Everyone's been concerned about your leg injury.

E: It's pretty good. I've done all the protection and nourishment that are needed for my recovery. I've tried everything to speed up the recovery. So I'm letting nature take its course.

R: We were really worried for you when the doctor said you might have a pair of mismatched legs.

E: Yes, it's possible if you do not heed the doctor's advice to take the necessary care. The injured leg muscle may contract, causing the normal leg to be bigger than the other... Right now for my performances, I would subconsciously support my weight on my right leg instead of the other injured one. That's because I do not want to take any chances of injuring my leg and reliving that moment when I was injured.

R: At your conert on 26 May, everyone saw that you gave your best effort.

E: Definitely, on the stage I would give it my all and think about nothing else.

R: You were wearing bandages on that night.

E: The doctor said I need to wear exercise leg bands like other athletes to tighten my muscle, so that I would not tear my muscle so easily.

R: Did it affect your dancing?

E: Because I'd wrapped it so tight, it felt a little numb. It gave me a sense of security when I'm dancing, but it did not affect much of my performance.

R: Were you nervous when you performed the dance that caused your injury?

E: No, I did not think so much about it. But for the initial rehearsal I did think about it for a while, and I was pretty careful of my moves.... Actually I felt that I had injured myself because of the setting at that place. Of course the dance moves were tiring, since they were choreographed by a renowned U.S. dance choreographer. My hands and legs were extremely busy every second. Due to my fast paced songs and the dance moves, the whole recording was especially energy draining... the floor was wooden and sticky and my sneakers were slippery. When my leg and body were turning in opposite directions, my ankle was twisted and my tendon snapped. In fact for any dance the setting must be appropriate. Usually the dance choreographer will comment on any inappropriateness, but as a singer I have no choice. Although the floor was rough, the setting was beautiful. I will be more careful the next time.

R: You will have a lot of opportunities to perform in the future.

E: There will be concerts and mega events.

R: How's you mum?

E: She's recovering well now.

R: I saw a dance sequence in which you had to jump onto Show Luo. Was it tough?

E: Yes, it was.

R: Did you rehearse for very long?

E: Not exactly.

R: Was it tough on you or him?

E: We had our own difficulties. For me, I had to jump onto him and maintain my posture, while he had to support and hold onto me. Sometimes we would knock into each other and it was rather painful.

R: Did he complain about anything? For example if you use less strength when jumping?

E: No no.

R: He should be very happy to be hugged by a beautiful lady.

E: Actually the time was pretty short. What was pretty regrettable was that when he was performing and I'm not, the spotlight would be on me and vice versa. So the audience were not able to see our dance that clearly. Because of our different record companies, this part was unable to be broadcasted on TV.

R: You'd spent 1087 days making this album come true, spent 139 days to recover from your injury, and your mum was admitted into the hospital just when your were about to stage your concert. Even so, you put up a brilliant performance. You were pretty strong.

E: Because my mum was strong, I had to be strong too. Actually when my mum was sick, I had just re-release my album, but my family comes first. Although re-releasing my album was very important, there would be lots of things to show my fans after my recovery. But I had to do what I was born to do, to be a good daughter. In fact my mum wanted to see me doing what I'd wanted to do because my fans had waited so long since my injury. She did not want to be selfish. She felt that her daughter should be doing what she should be doing as a singer, to perform for everyone. And this optimistic view was what made her so strong. So I did what I had to do, but after work I would stay by her side.

R: Although your mum was not present at the concert, she could feel how strong you were. You made her felt relieved in another way.

E: Yes, my mum was so much stronger than me. She told me to do my best and to put in more effort than before. That was to encourage her, to make her feel proud. She's very cute, she took a positive view of the situation. I was pretty of ashame of myself then. As a daughter I was very emotional and yet she was so strong. It kind of made me matured a little.

R: I heard that your house was renovated and added quite a few feng-shui stuff.

E: Nope, only one.

R: Did you asked a fortune teller to read your fortune?

E: He was a feng-shui master actually. I hoped he can make my house safe.

R: You do believe in feng-shui?

E: It's better to believe than not, but not obsess with it such it takes control over your life. If it does help, it's a plus, if not, it's perfectly fine.

R: Did the feng-shui master help you read your fortune on other stuff like marriage or career?

E: Yes, he did. Every girl shoud do a little bit of fortune telling (giggles).

R: So how was it?

E: It's pretty good. Everyone said it wuld get better. It must get better after all that had happened. But I felt that I should decide my future.

R: You had a cameo with Tony Leong on Inferna Affairs, will you consider any more movies?

E: Yes, we have been kept in touch with many scripts.

R: But that cameo was too short!

E: Actually I was very happy. At that time I was preparing for my Hong Kong concert, the investor of my concert was also the boss of the movie, so he asked if I had acted before and have a guest appearance in the movie. I agreed for a guest appearance. So he said he will write a special scene with Tony Leong. I was pretty tired actually, rushing over during my concert rehearsals. I received the script the day before the shoot, but there were very few lines for me. I was told not to be worried as Tony would lead me into the scene. After an hour of filming, I had wrapped up and was ready to leave.

R: Tony Leong's eyes are pretty mesmerising.

E: Very subtle and melancholic.

R: He makes you feel very down to earth. You can practically see his smile from every angle. How do you feel?

E: Just as what you had just described. He did not make you feel suffocating, but he was just relaxed and being a gentleman.

R: So Elva likes this kind of men?

E: Everyone likes this kind of men!

R: I'm sure you have your standards.

E: It's ever changing. I will go by my feelings. I don't like men who talk too much. Even if a handsome man talks too much, I couldn't stand it too.

R: You want him to be your listener?

E: He can talk, but there has to be a limit. Our ears have to rest sometimes. It will be a turn off if he loves to show off so much. Just a little bit will do... I would prefer guys who worked for what he wants.

R: Everyone's been asking when your next album would be released.

E: We have started our meeting and I won't let everyone wait for another 1000 days. We hoped to release it by end of the year. But sometimes during the production, we may have differing views or want to make the album better. What's most important is to produce a great album.

R: There will still be dance numbers?

E: Of course, but I hope to try different things for my dance numbers.

E: I was involved in a lot of production for this album. This was one of the reason why I love to sing so much. It's not just about the stage performance, it's the process from nothing to the song was produced and you deliver your feelings to the audience through the song. Although everyone sees the final product as a 3 minute MV, but there was a lot of effort and talent put in. And it was fun doing so.
