14 Feb evening, thousands of fans thronged the autograph session, and Elva proudly announced that her latest album, 1087, was the best selling album in China recently, her only regret was her inability to perform her newly acquired dance moves from U.S..
"Actually, if we view my injury positively...", she cackled, "Because of the change in the genre of songs, many of my fans forgotten that I did sang many ballads when I first started out. So due to the injury, I could only sit down and sing my ballads, reminding people that I not only can dance. Some musicians even commented that I sang really well!"
Recollecting her 1087-day hiatus, she said that during the first 300 days, she flew to the U.S. for dance lessons, the rest of the time was spent producing this latest album. From the ceremonious sign-on with Warner, to the extended postponement of her album and from discharging her contract to recollaborating with Warner, Elva revealed that she was appalled by the great difference in the way she was treated before and after signing the contract. Although she understands that Warner Music Taiwan could not do much during the management change, it seemed ridiculous for her agency to release the album! She had to protect herself, so she chose to annul the contract.
"Previously, when I was in Virgin Music, I had experienced management change when EMI and Virgin Music merged, but because I was constantly releasing my albums, so my fans did not notice any significant problems. I didn't release any album during my 3-year relationship with Warner, so the media and my fans were very concerned, and alot of stuff were blown out of proportion."
The long wait is over, what worries Elva now is her leg injury. "It's recovering well, if not for my work, I can move about slowly in my room." What she fret more is that her body is not balanced, causing her left leg muscle to contract, and her right leg to gain muscle for supporting all her weight. She, too, had muscle aches as she had to constantly rely on her wheelchair during her promotional events.
Regarding when her leg will fully recover, she said "I will be flying to the U.S. for rehabilitation after Lunar New Year. The appointment with my doctors had been booked, and they told me that the process will be tough, taking at most 3 months. But it couldn't beat the time when I was just injured and bathing alone with my leg cast on."
Elva had bad memories about her injury. She is worried that she cannot dance as vigorously or suffer from prolonged ligament injury, so she chose to seek treatment in America, to prevent any negative repurcussions in the future.
"I heard that they will be using the latest anti-gravity equipment, and 4 different treatment including hydrotherapy."
On spending this special Valentine's Day in Guangzhou with her fans, she laughed "Because I don't have a boyfriend, so this day is just another 14 Feb to me. I just realised yesterday that today's Valentine's Day. But I wouldn't object to other people celebrating Valentine's Day just because I'm single. I only want to say that if you truly love someone, you shouldn't treat him/her so nice just on this day, you should treasure everyday together."
